Planning a trip to Germany for your next holiday? We have a list of some of the top spots you’re not going to want to miss. No matter your budget, the country has a lot to offer travelers. Whether you enjoy natural beauty or bustling cities full of art, culture and nightlife or small villages with great food, you’re going to find something to love about taking your holiday in Germany.

What to See and Do in Germany

Here are some places and activities you don’t want to miss if you decide to head to Germany for your next holiday getaway.

  • Cologne – Considered by many to be the cultural and economic center of the Rhineland, this is the fourth largest city in Germany. The city actually is home to the biggest brothel in all of Europe. They’re not prudes. Cologne also has a lot to offer families as well as people who aren’t into the party scene in foreign countries.
  • Dresden – If you’re a student of history, you’re going to want to consider stopping at Dresden. While you might not think this tragic location would make for a good holiday getaway, it can actually allow you time to step back and take a look at the big picture. This can go a long way in helping you get more out of your life.
  • Potsdam – Originally home to kings and royalty, Potsdam is now a great place to visit because of all the parks, museums and historical places to see. The Schloss Sanssouci (Carefree Palace) was built here by Frederick the Great. Today it’s a favorite destination for Germans as well as tourists from around the world because of all the city has to offer.
  • Fussen – If you’re looking for something out of the way, this small village at the base of the Bavarian Alps is home to one of Europe’s most interesting castles – Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau and Linderhof. The castle from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty was based on Hohenschwangau. If you want to see some great old castles, you’re going to want to stay in Fussen at a holiday rental.
  • Stuttgart – If you’re environmentally friendly and consider yourself “green,” you’re really going to want to see this city. It’s a modern marvel and one of the greenest cities in all of Europe. Quite a bit of the city is devoted to greenery and parks which makes it easy to relax when on holiday.
